Shahrukh Khan and Kajol relived the glory of the most memorable film
of their career on Friday at a press conference organised in Yash Raj
Studios to celebrate the 1,000-week completion of Dilwale Dulhania Le
Jayenge.
The 1995 blockbuster remains a benchmark for romantic drama in
Bollywood even today, and it catapulted SRK, Kajol and its debutant
director Aditya Chopra to superstardom. SRK, in fact, mixed celebrations
with work.
The grand DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE’s 1000 weeks celebration will
be one unforgettable moment not only for the fans & admirers but
also for Raj & Simran, Shah Rukh Khan & Kajol! The most admired
on-screen pair Raj & Simran, who were present for the DDLJ 1000
weeks celebration at Maratha Mandir recently, made it memorable for
everyone present by recreating the magical DDLJ moments.
Not only did Shah Rukh oblige the fans with most of their requests,
but also made Kajol teary-eyed. With an emotional touch he expressed,
“DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE wouldn’t have been possible without Adi,
Yash Chopra Ji and you’ll, but, for me, whenever I have heard this
story, because it was a very modern take of everything that happened and
this is a 20 year old film, the whole film revolved around only one
character.
We all were trying, not only to woo, but to respect, love and
actually make a point through that one character and it would not have
been possible if that character were not played by Kajol. The film was
about Simran & will always remain about Simran.” “Her simplicity
& unaffectedness, is not just acting, that’s the way she is. Not
only as a friend not only as a co-actor, not only as Ajay’s wife, not
only is she the mother to her children, not only as a daughter to her
mother, I am saying something very personal, she may be a little awkward
about it, but, I’ll say, her acting in the film is not acting, this is
the way she is. She is purity personified.
And the films purity & beauty comes from her,” added SRK. After
saying this, he made sure he makes Kajol laugh. Looking at her he
gushed, “I have praised her a lot and now I request her to praise me a
little.” He was shooting at YRF Studio later that night for a new YRF
film called Fan, almost as if to bring back sweet memories of the time
he spent shooting for the film in the nineties. The actor said the
continuing popularity of DDLJ was because its story was relevant even
after so many years. “People should watch the film because it has
realities that are true for this era.
The film says it is cool to be Raj and Simran while maintaining our
Indianness and culture,” Shah Rukh said during a conversation with Kajol
on stage. The actress, who turned up despite a fractured leg, recounted
interesting incidents during shoot. She pointed out that her daughter
Nysa was not very fond of the film because of the scenes where she
cries.
In between discussions, SRK brought out memorabilia seen in the film,
including the jacket, rucksack, mandolin and the cowbell trinket that
define important scenes. As always, reclusive film-maker Aditya Chopra
stayed away from the event.
SRK recalled how Aditya would often have differences with his father,
the illustrious Yash Chopra. Aditya’s reaction would be: “I don’t know
if I am right or wrong. Let me make my own mistakes.” At the event, the
two stars also unveiled a book titled Aditya Chopra Relives Dilwale
Dulhania Le Jayenge by Nasreen Munni Kabir.
